Technology and Dementia event
Our first thematic event of the year will be all about how technology can help families living with dementia. Delivered in collaboration with William Grant Foundation, Alzheimer Scotland and HammondCare, it will take place on 24th March at Strathclyde Technology and Innovation Centre.
There will be an opportunity for people affected by dementia to try out bits of technology and to ask questions about, or recommend, technology that they use themselves. We will also be launching a report which looks at the effectiveness of assistive technology for people with dementia and unpaid carers. The event will allow us to highlight and draw on the findings from the report as well as engage with people with dementia, unpaid carers, professionals working in dementia and industry experts in order to share learning.
Community & Dementia, creating better lives:
Events across Scotland
Between 2018 and 2021, the Life Changes Trust is holding a series of 14 Collaborative Learning Events across Scotland.
Our first visit was to Inverness in November 2018.
Our main conference was on the 29th November, but we also held two smaller events: one on the 27th November for people living with dementia and carers and a drop in session to sample local dementia friendly activities on the 28th. For those who could not make it along to the main event on the 29th, we live streamed it on Facebook.
We plan to hold further events in Aberdeen, Inverness, Orkney, Shetland, the Western Isles, Ayshire & Arran, Lanarkshire, Forth Valley, Borders, Dumfries, Fife, Tayside, Glasgow and Edinburgh/Lothians.
Event 2: Community & Dementia, Creating Better Lives in Grampian
The Life Changes Trust, people with dementia, unpaid carers and stakeholder’s from across the Grampian Region worked collaboratively over a number of months to design this event. We wanted to innovate, inform and inspire those who attend by providing an opportunity to learn from initiatives and evidence from across Grampian. This then supported local areas to think more deeply about how communities can uphold the human rights of people with dementia and unpaid carers. The event took place on the 20th March in Aberdeen.
Event 3: Community & Dementia, Creating Better Lives in Orkney
Taking place on Thursday 9th May 2019, the event programme consisted of short innovative presentations, an interactive and informative marketplace as well as inspiring engagement sessions where we listened to what matters to people affected by dementia in Orkney, highlighting their priorities and addressing these as a partnership moving forward. We also hosted a 'Dance 'n' jive' event (which literally rocked!), storytelling sessions and a 'Movie Memories' session, with fantatic support from Age Scotland Orkney.
Event 4: Community & Dementia, Creating Better Lives in the Western Isles
Taking place in Benbecula and Stornoway, our fourth 'Community & Dementia: Creating Better Lives' event took us to the Western Isles from the 16th - 18th September. We heard from local people with dementia and unpaid carers about what matters to them. Our three days included storytelling sessions, a garden party, and a small conference where we showcased local projects, and heard from individuals sharing their experiences as carers or as people living with dementia.
Event 5: Community & Dementia, Creating Better Lives in Ayrshire and Arran
Our 'Community & Dementia: Creating Better Lives' conference is coming to Ayrshire and Arran on 28th November. There will also be a variety of other creative community events such as 'An Afternoon of Burns' and our Festive Fun by the Sea Event.
