Local Legacy Awards are funding local legacy partners to focus on two or more of three well-evaluated means of supporting people living with dementia and unpaid carers.

These are:

  • Dementia Friendly Communities
  • Peer Support
  • Meeting Centres

Local legacy partners will develop these three approaches, working with national legacy partners BOLD and About Dementia to share and embed learning across Scotland. This will include a true commitment to early evaluation, wide sharing of learning, learning from others, and seeking further ways to sustain this work beyond the funding of the Life Changes Trust.

Acorn Shed Music, in partnership with Ceartas and the Village Storytelling Centre were awarded £74,067 for a legacy project running from March 2022 to July 2024. This project has received 20% match funding from Creative Scotland.

A partnership between Ceartas, Acorn Shed Music and The Village Storytelling Centre, this project will co-create a body of new songs with people living with dementia and unpaid carers working alongside songwriters.

By using participatory and creative methodologies and engaging in interactive storytelling and song writing workshop activities, the partnership will encourage, support and enable carers and people living with dementia to express themselves and talk about issues that are important to them.

Participants will work alongside professional musicians to record these songs, which will be performed at two celebration events. The music and newly composed songs will be shared using social media, digital music platforms and by working with the national legacy agencies. The organisations involved expect that the message of the songs will help people with dementia and unpaid carer to have their voices heard, and lead to improved outcomes in support and service delivery.
