Dementia Friendly West Dunbartonshire

Dementia Friendly West Dunbartonshire was awarded £140,000 to run from April 2015 to March 2018. In April 2017, Dementia Friendly West Dunbartonshire was awarded additional funding of £13,000 from the William Grant Foundation.

This project aimed to take a whole place approach to develop a programme of activities designed to generate involvement and partnership, which reflected the local neighbourhood.

Life Changes Trust funding was awarded to develop dementia friendly communities across West Dunbartonshire, through a programme of localised awareness training, pledge sessions, recruitment of local dementia Champions and dementia friendly status accreditation for organisations and businesses.

Dementia Friendly West Dunbartonshire partnership included representatives from West Dunbartonshire Health and Social Care Partnership, West Dunbartonshire CVS, Scottish Care, West Dunbartonshire Council, Police Scotland, West College Scotland, RNIB and Alzheimer Scotland.

Trust funding and the activities of Dementia Friendly West Dunbartonshire led to increased understanding of what it means to be dementia friendly throughout the whole area and people with dementia in the area feeling included and empowered to do the things that matter most to them.  Organisations and businesses throughout West Dunbartonshire were given dementia friendly status accreditation and a network of dementia ambassadors was created.
