Evanton Wood Community Company

Evanton Wood Community Company was awarded £15,000 to run from 2018 to 2020.

The aim of the project was to deliver a programme of outdoor activities for people living with dementia in areas surrounding Evanton Wood, near Dingwall.

The funding award is being used to deliver a programme of weekly outdoor activity sessions for people living with dementia, providing participants the opportunity to explore, take part in different activities, socialise and engage with other community groups within a woodland setting. People living with dementia are extensively involved in the development of the content for each session through engagement with local care centres and dementia groups. Activities are tailored to suit each individual’s own goals and capabilities.

As a result of this project, people living with dementia in the Evanton area are already seeing more opportunities to take part in regular outdoor activities, leading to increased physical and mental wellbeing, and a growing sense of confidence.

Evanton Community Wood won a Dementia Friendly Environments Recognition Award from Paths for All, in March 2019.
