HomePointr was awarded £50,000 for the period of 2019 to 2020
The Life Changes Trust Home and Belonging initiative has been designed to provide an opportunity to re-imagine what a fulfilling future can look like for a young person with care experience once they move on from formal care, based around a safe, welcoming and personal space – their home.
It will support young people to find a strong sense of home and belonging in their own communities, recognising that “home is not a place, it is a feeling.” All of the projects take a service design approach, were designed with young people using creative approaches, and will involve young people with care experience in their delivery and evaluation.
HomePointr will develop the pilot project ‘MoneyPointr’, an online digital collaborative platform for young people leaving care aged 16 to 25 living in temporary accommodation.
It will be a free, fun and informative youth-led project in the City of Edinburgh. There will be a variety of activities available through the platform, such as interactive courses on tenancy and financial literacy. Young people using the platform will have access to coaches, who will provide them with guidance throughout the pilot on a one-to-one basis. Coaches will also hold Financial Literacy Bootcamps for young people leaving care, and online support will be available 24/7.
The pilot project will help young people leaving care to consider their tenancy and financial choices, understand basic tenancy and money management, develop their own perspectives on tenancy choices and obligations, financial matters such as deposits and rent arrears, and will help them to participate fully in society as knowledgeable, responsible citizens who can confidently make decisions about where and how to manage tenancy and money. This project will be carried out in collaboration with Passion4Fusion’s MoneyMatix project.
