Partnerships for Wellbeing, Highland
Partnerships for Wellbeing was awarded £34,322, to run from June 2019 to May 2020.
While Partnerships for Wellbeing already had many well-established walking groups, they wanted to enhance this by introducing a new targeted health walk model for people with dementia and their carers.
This project focuses health walks around the Evanton Community Woodland, which is the first dementia friendly woodland in Scotland. Partnerships for Wellbeing’s approach is to increase the dementia friendliness of the groups rather than develop 'dementia only' groups, in order to favour a mixed community on the health walks.
The communal nature of health walks aids motivation to walk and builds relationships and friendships, thus reducing social isolation. It also improves overall health and wellbeing.
