Quarriers – Get Creative, Get Active

Quarriers was awarded £146,696 to deliver their project ‘Get Active, Get Creative’ from April 2018 to March 2021

Young people with care experience have told us that they would love more opportunities to be active and have fun, developing their interests and trying out new things in areas such as music, art, sport and crafts. The Creative and Active Lives funding initiative was created with this in mind.

The funding will support young people with care experience to increase their social networks, skills and improve their health. These projects all have young people at their heart, as the Trust works with organisations that create opportunities for young people to design and lead programmes themselves. The Trust awarded a total of £1,746,170 to fourteen Creative and Active Lives projects across Scotland.

Get Creative, Get Active is a project led by young people with care experience, where they undertake peer research, evaluation and promotion, all with the intended aim of supporting young people with care experience to access and participate more in creative and active pursuits in the Falkirk area. They will also identify where there are barriers for young people to do so.

The project, developed in partnership with Falkirk Champions Board and Falkirk Council, gives young people with care experience the encouragement they need to discover and nurture their talents as leaders, planners and researchers. Over the course of the project, young people will have discovered and developed talents, grown friendships and social networks and engaged with positive role models. This will contribute to increased wellbeing, resilience and physical health, encouraging them towards positive outcomes.  Creative and active organisations who participate will have a greater understanding of the challenges faced by young people with care experience and a greater ability to design services with these barriers in mind.
