Local Legacy Awards are funding local legacy partners to focus on two or more of three well-evaluated means of supporting people living with dementia and unpaid carers.

These are:

  • Dementia Friendly Communities
  • Peer Support
  • Meeting Centres

Local legacy partners will develop these three approaches, working with national legacy partners BOLD and About Dementia to share and embed learning across Scotland. This will include a true commitment to early evaluation, wide sharing of learning, learning from others, and seeking further ways to sustain this work beyond the funding of the Life Changes Trust.

STAND was awarded £ 119,480 for a two-year legacy project running from March 2022 to February 2024.  STAND means Striving Towards A New Day.

STAND aims to provide a holistic programme of therapeutic activities to support people living with a diagnosis of dementia and their families and friends to live well with dementia at all stages of the journey, including the pre-diagnosis stage.

They will establish Meeting Centres across Fife where peer support will be provided as an integral part of the centre and will run alongside an activity programme. Activities designed in consultation with people using the spaces will be provided from a range of venues across Fife and may include creative writing, storytelling, painting, modelling, music, dance, mindfulness, gentle yoga, stimulating and manageable physical exercise, crafting, photography and tai chi.

STAND members will also deliver their six-week self-management course ‘A Good Life with Dementia’ in the Meeting Centres. This is aimed at people who have been newly diagnosed with dementia and who are in the mild to moderate stages of the illness.
