University of West of Scotland - Kinections

University of West of Scotland was awarded £225,000 in August 2017, to run until July 2020.

This project is a partnership between the University of the West of Scotland and East Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership. It is based on a UK-wide initiative called ‘My Home Life’, which aims to improve the quality of life of people who are living permanently in care homes, and strengthen relationships between people living in care homes and the wider community.

The main aim of the project is to develop and grow sustainable dementia friendly communities in East Ayrshire with and for older people with dementia living in care homes and those who support them, enabling them to enjoy the best possible quality of life.

This project is benefitting people with dementia and their families enormously - residents with dementia are supported to have a significant say in what services they receive and how, their opinions are listened to and respected, and they are involved with their local community in ways that matter to them. Their human rights are being respected and upheld.
